sounder 9
well it here !!!!new Firearms Licensing Regulations most of us should of got a letter informing them of their extension and the timeframe!!!!!!! here the link to the garda site, read the POPULAR QUESTIONS IN RELATION TO FIREARMS APPLICATIONS also i like like to know what new security standards ?????????? i see the price is gone up per gun euro per gun ??? if any of ye have any in-put or view into this please post sounder Quote Link to post
JohnGalway 1,043
It's € per gun but that's a saving or a cost depending on what you have. € for a rifle for three years is good considering it was €38 per year for every rifle. Though people with more than one shotgun are getting the shitty end of the stick as subsequent shotguns are now also € x 3 years instead of the reduced rate that they used to be. The new security standards haven't been published as yet. I believe they're due to be published this week sometime. In my opinion it's a mess, but like anything it'll get worked out. I've not yet got my extension letters, I'm hoping I'll get extended out into next year so I can use other shooters experience to fill the forms properly, definitely not an issue to be "taking one for the team". Well scratch that, just got mine, they're up the soonest possible date 31/10/09. Me and my big gob Edited August 5, 2009 by JohnGalway Quote Link to post
smithwicks 182
was talking to a friend the other day and he told me that all guns have to be kept in a ''gun cabinet'' and that gun cabinet has to be wired up to your local garda station, so then if some one tries to break into your gun cabinet an alarm would go off in the garda station, and the gards would be notifed straight away! Rumors There was debate a while back on differing levels of security. Depending on number of guns, types of guns (rimfire rifles, shotguns, centrefire rifles, pistols etc.). I would think myself that everyone will need at least a secured gun cabinet. As for alarms, could be just normal house alarm, or a monitored alarm such as Eircoms Phone Watch. But, wired to the cop shop, no, definitely not. Quote Link to post
zook 0
fogive me if I sound dumb but just read the new rules cant see where it says you need a separate licence for each firearm ? but then im english ao have differnt rules Quote Link to post
JohnGalway 1,043
Look at the application form Zook. Section 6.1 asks for details of other licenses, so as usual here each gun will be licensed. Also, NARGC.ie will have a sample filled in form on their website sometime soon, there's already a little info on there about it. Quote Link to post

JohnGalway 1,043
An ordinary house alarm wouldn't be too bad. The monitored alarm would be a bugger though. I got this house costed by PhoneWatch before, it was either €1,200 or €1,800 I can't remember which, you've been here so you know it's not a mansion! There'll be plenty of fun & games for the next few weeks that's for sure Quote Link to post

Mr_Logic 5
Right guys I must confess I know sod all about the licensing in Ireland. I'm now curious... so how does it work over there? You need a separate FAC for each gun, and each one is chargeable? That's worse than here if so... Quote Link to post

JohnGalway 1,043
Yes, each gun, be it shotgun, air rifle, rifle etc needs it's own license, each of which cost € now and last for three years. Quote Link to post
